Description
The Westport Parks and Recreation Dept. follows the U.S. Figure Skating Learn to Skate Program. It is designed to keep skaters enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until the time they reach their goals. Whether they want to excel to compete or simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the Learn to Skate Program is the place to start!
Basic 2-6: (Ages 6+)
The Basic Skills lessons are the foundation and fundamentals of the sport of ice skating. These eight levels will introduce the skater to forward skating, backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, turns and Mohawks, and beginning spins and jumps. Upon completion of Basic 1 - 8 levels, skaters will have a basic knowledge of the sport, enabling them to advance to more specialized areas of skating or just enjoy the recreational benefits of the sport. Children will be learning new skills and having fun outdoors in a socially distant group atmosphere!
