"My core desire is to help students balance their busy lives
and add something that is both interesting and fulfilling." - Sue
Sue's story begins in Columbia, Tennessee where she first encountered martial arts in the form of Tae Kwon Do. During her seven years of practice during which she achieved a second-degree black belt, Sue did two things: she built lasting relationships, and she discovered the value of martial arts for her mental, emotional, and physical health.
However, as time passed Sue began to desire the benefits without the high impact on her body that could lead to injury. That is when she found the "moving meditation" better known as Tai Chi.
Studying under Master Tom Wang in Sue saw the miraculous benefits of practicing tai chi through her instructor. She couldn't ignore, for instance, that Master Wang began studying with a cane and soon gained more strength and agility than students twenty years his junior. After studying the Chen, Sword and Yang forms, Sue realized the best way to learn more was to begin instructing herself.
As a former nursing teacher and practitioner, Sue emphasizes the health benefits and longevity of tai chi in her classes. Each student goes at their own pace. She tries to combine different teaching methods so students feel accomplished and understand this art form.
?The greatest joy of teaching are seeing the happiness reflected in the faces of my students when they are better balanced, feel more energized and just have a great time seeing their fellow students every week. Learning tai chi is a gift you give yourself. All it requires is a desire to learn."
