Description: This course is designed as an intensive overview of common metalworking tools and techniques. The course will give students a basic knowledge of the material and its inherent properties, uses and artistic possibilities. Students will learn the basic techniques of sawing/filing, soldering, forming, and simple fabrication. Using sheet metal and wire we will make one pierced pendant and at least one ring.
Biography:Hali MacLaren is a jewelry artist and teacher based in West Chester, PA. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewelry and Metalsmithing as well as a Minor in Photography from The University of the Arts in 2014. Hali's recent awards include the "Rear Admiral and Mrs. Jack Bowling Memorial Award in Metalsmithing" from The University of the Arts in 2014, "Best in Crafts" in the 2017 Swarthmore Arts and Craft Festival, and "Best in Show" in the 2018 Cape May Promenade show. She has been recognized in news articles including the Cape May Star and Wave, Press of Atlantic City, Fig Magazine, Main Line Today and Beachcomber Magazine. Currently, Hali sells her work at local craft shows, direct from her studio in West Chester, at local shops - including the WAC Gallery Shop, and on her online store. Hali's pieces are all inspired by the ocean, but she also takes custom orders, whatever style they may be. She loves teaching beginner jewelry artists at Wayne Art Center because they are always inspiring to work with.
