Dear Parents and Sailing and Kayaking Camper,
Thank you for registering for a great week at the City of Ventura Leo Robbins Community Sailing Center, located at 2950 Pierpont Blvd in Ventura. Here is some information to make your week at camp go smoothly:
We have a sign-in, sign-out procedure each morning and afternoon. Drive straight to the end of the parking lot; look for our camp counselors near the picnic table. Sign-in begins at 9:00 am, sign-out begins roughly at 3:30 and should be complete by 4:00 pm each day. Counselors will not be available until 9:00 am for sign-in. If you would like to drop your child off earlier than 9:00 am, please review the emergency card and indicate that your child can be dropped off early OR leave camp without being signed out. Staff are not responsible for self-sign in/out campers before or after they sign in/out. Please pick up your child by 4:00 pm every day. There will be a charge of $10 for every fifteen minutes (or portion of) that you are late. All campers are to have sunscreen applied before drop-off. Camper belongings are to be plainly labeled with their name. We strongly suggest leaving all electronic devices and valuables at home, as waterlogged electronics make for sad kids and frustrated parents. We are not responsible for damaged or lost possessions. Please also leave all fishing equipment at home, we do not allow any fishing equipment due to the potential for injury.
Please go to https://www.cityofventura.ca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/22224/Participant-Release-Agreement-and-Youth-Emergency-Form-PDF?bidId= to download our emergency information card. Please bring the completed card with you on the first day of camp.
Bring the following each day:
Lunch, snacks and drinking water
Swim suit and towel
Change of warm clothes, with sweatshirt or jacket
Sunscreen
Hat and sunglasses
A leash for any glasses
Close-toed shoes
Lip balm with sunscreen
Anything needed to keep the camper comfortable all day, outside
And of course a good attitude
On Tuesday mornings the Parks Maint Staff will be moving the lawns. The Gates will be closed to the parking lot in the morning. Please do not worry that the park is closed. Our staff will meet parents at the gate shortly before 9 to start taking sign ins before they open the gate to allow cars into the parking lot.
Safety at all times is our number one priority for all activities at the sailing center. Weather may dictate our plans for the Our sailing activities will take place in and around the Ventura harbor. Boats may leave the harbor at a safe distance only if the students show proper handling knowledge, the weather conditions and forecast are safe to do so, all safety equipment is on board, and there is an escort by safety boat. Our staff are also in close communication with the Ventura harbor patrol and will notify them of the groups departure, destination and intended return time. Once the group returns to the harbor they will check in with Harbor patrol. If you have any questions about our sailing activities during camp please feel free to call or email the coordinator or ask any of the knowledgeable camp staff.
Thank you for choosing the City of Ventura for Sailing and Kayaking camp. If you have any questions, please email or call me at the Recreation Office number listed below.
