Description

Poetry From the River at Mission Trails Regional Park

Join fellow participants at 3:30 p.m. at the shade structure in Kumeyaay Lake Campground for a tour of Mission Trails Regional Park by a knowledgeable trail guide, who will orient poets about respect for the land and creatures in it.

Following the tour, two 60-minute workshops will provide poetry prompts from the tour of the park. Participants will be asked to write poetry about impressions, images, sounds, events, etc. that happened on the tour. Poets will be encouraged to write about ways they actualized respect for the land and relatives, then read the poems.

The second 60 minute format will include poetry prompts from Walt Whitman, Robinson Jeffers, Diane Ackerman, Jorge Luis Borges, Native American Joy Harjo, and Sandra Cisneros. Participants will then write original Nature poems and read their poems to workshop participants.

At 7 p.m., participants will walk over to the day-use lot and enjoy a star party by an MTRP volunteer astronomer.
