Description

The Westside Repair Café returns to the Camera to connect folks with broken household items to volunteers who will demonstrate repairs - diverting goods from the landfill and increasing community skills. Bring your small household goods and see if their useful lives can be extended!

Drop off larger items curbside right out front before parking. No gas powered appliances allowed onsite. If you know how to fix something and would like to help, please send email to ourtimebank@gmail.com.

Volunteer-staffed repair tables include:

  • Appliances/ electrical
  • Bike repair with Santa Monica Bike Center
  • Computers/ tech
  • Furniture/ wooden items
  • Gardening advice
  • Garment repair/ sewing
  • Hair trimming
  • Repair advice

  • Donations accepted for consumable materials used in repairs.
Note for bicyclists: the Bike Center's mechanic will be on hand to help change tires, give advice and do short repairs; for long repairs and from-scratch assembly please patronize your local bike store.

There will also be an informal giveaway table if people have useful items to swap.

At 2pm Andrew Dove will give a kombucha-making demonstration for those interested in learning how to make their own kombucha drink.

Echo Park Film Center will also be in the house with their 'Cinematic stocking stuffers workshop,' where you can make flipbooks, thaumatropes and other small optical devices - great for gifts! It's all part of their five week project celebrating the 120th anniversary of the Camera Obscura.

Repair Café is presented in conjunction with Our Time Bank (http://ourtimebank.communityforge.net/), Transition Culver City (http://transitionculvercity.org), and the City of Santa Monica's Resource Recovery Program. (http://facebook.com/santamonicarrr), and is based on the format of Repair Cafe International (http://repaircafe.org).
