Description

This workshop will focus on the process of using one woodblock to make a full-color print on fabric. In reduction printing a multi-color print is created using only one block, and cutting away more and more of the block surface in between the printing of each color. The finished print on fabric can be used in a variety of ways. In order to have finished full color prints it is advisable to plan on enrolling in the following Saturday's class (Reduction Woodcut Printing), but it's possible to learn the entire process in one class.

Patricia R. Mitchell will be spending her tenure (1/6- 4/13/16) creating prints and images, with a special focus on creating printed fabric using traditional woodblock and photo transfer techniques. She will use the fabric produced to upholster an inherited piece of furniture that harbors deep personal history. Mitchell is a visual artist living and working in downtown Los Angeles. She has been making art for over 20 years, and was a printer at Gemini G.E.L., where she worked with artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Elizabeth Murray and Richard Sera. She was also a professor at Kendall College of Art and Design where she taught and ran the Fine Art Printmaking department. In addition to her studio practice she makes props for motion pictures and television. patriciarmitchell.com
