Description:
Have you or your child always wanted to learn to sew? Get started here in this virtual, beginning sewing course. Participants will learn the basics of machine sewing and hand stitching, how to safely operate a machine, fabric cutting and more. Participants will create projects such as scrunchies, tote bags, pillow cases and a simple skirt, shorts or pajama bottoms. We hope to have your child sewing with confidence by the end of this course. The Continuing sewing class is for participants who have already taken the beginning level course and are ready for more challenging projects. A materials list will be provided at time of registration.
Participants are required to have a working sewing machine and basic knowledge of the machine, including threading. Having time to practice outside of class is strongly encouraged. The materials needed for the class (Approx. $50 for all essentials) are: sewing scissors (Fiskars Multi-Purpose Straight Scissors, 8”), straight pins (Dritz Ball Point Pins), safety pins (100 pk.), tape measure, seam ripper, sewing machine needles (Schmetz Universal Needle Combo Pack), bobbins (5 ct.), hand sewing needles (Singer Hand Sewing Needles with Needle Threader Assorted Sizes 30 ct.), thread- black, white & four additional colors (Gutermann Natural Cotton Thread 250M or Coats & Clark All-Purpose Cotton Thread 225 yds.) fabric (yardage to be determined), patterns (to be determined). Materials can be purchased at JoAnn’s Fabrics (Please sign up for their coupons!), Amazon, or any other retail shop of your choice. Name brands are not mandatory. Be aware of the sewing machine type you have and match the needles and bobbins to it. Access to an iron is also recommended. An invite to join a Google Sewing Classroom will be sent for participants to access shared documents and information. This online class will use Zoom platform, so all who register should have reliable internet and Zoom downloaded to access the call. A meeting and access code will be emailed to you prior to the first meeting date. We recommend each participant have access to a device with a working webcam, in order to get the most benefit of this virtual program.
