Description
Each camp is a two week program designed around 2 general science principles. Campers typically do 2 science projects a day, 10 per week. See below for details:
Week 1:
Critter Camp: Critter Camp is full of fun animal-based projects, many of which include special animal visitors such as Indigo the peacock and a wide assortment of funky chickens and bunnies. We will explore a variety of different organisms from microbes to more complex animals such as mammals, birds and reptiles. We will use art, creativity and curiosity to learn about each special animal.
Week 2:
Cryptozoology: Do you think we have already discovered everything that exists? No! Did you ever want to find a Sasquatch, a Unicorn or other mythical creature? There are tons of creatures out there waiting for new young scientists and adventurers to discover. Often called cryptids, these creatures hide in remote forests and deep seas. They may even be hiding in your back yard! Some cryptids have actually been discovered and proven to exist like the chambered nautilus, others…not so much. Learn about how scientists use the scientific method to help prove discoveries and how to identify false science, often called pseudoscience.
A $80 materials fee is payable to the instructor on the first day of camp.
All in-person recreation camps will comply with the current County and State Health Orders and guidelines.

Notes
The San Carlos Science and Creativity Camp program at Laureola Park returns for an exciting summer under the direction of founder Robin Nelsen. Robin holds a K-12 General and Life Science teaching credential as well as a BS in Biology and a dual Masters in Biological Sciences and Education and is currently an adjunct Biology and Health Science instructor at Canada College.
Each camp is a two week program designed around 2 general science principles. Campers typically do 2 science projects a day, 10 per week. Projects are of two different types; 1) hands on projects, 2) exciting demonstrations. All projects are educational and all are extremely fun! While scientific concepts are introduced in each project, the emphasis is on “doing” and making science relevant and fun.
Other daily camp activities include games and recess activities. At recess campers are offered crafts and a supervised recess at the Laureola Park play.
The camp is made even more special with our animal visitors. Animals attend and are part of every camp, regardless of theme. We will also have visits from Robin’s own farm and exotic animals which include tons of fluffy bunnies, funky chickens, playful sheep, Indigo the Peacock, and many more!
A Daily pre-packaged snack is provided right before recess, but please bring a bag lunch. Lab fees cover supplies for each camp and are payable to Robin Lise-Nielsen on the first day of camp.
