EMERSON STUDY DAY -- EXPERIENCE
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10th, 2019
8:30 AM- 1:00 PM
12 East 79th Street
Come explore the spiritual and intellectual legacy of America's great philosopher and teacher, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Drawing on the wisdom of Plato and the Eastern traditions, Emerson knew from direct experience and observation that Unity is the true reality. His affirmation of Unity was total, and he encourages people to discover this for themselves.
We shall study selected passages from his most personal and deeply introspective essay, Experience. The essay offers guidance in how life can be a "series of surprises," if we let go of our illusions and attachments, as well as how to experience the greatness of our Being by filling our life with more happiness and wisdom. All are welcome!
From the essay:
"To fill the hour, that is happiness; to fill the hour, and leave no crevice for repentance or an approval... To finish the moment, to find the journey's end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom."
All are welcome; no prior study of Emerson is required.
