Advanced Hike for Health: The Pacific NW is a hiker's dream. Travel in a PP&R van to one of hundreds of spectacular hiking trails within a 100 mile radius of Portland. Experience old-growth forests, cascading streams, dramatic waterfalls, diverse wildflowers, inspiring mountain vistas & secluded ocean beaches. Advanced Hike for Health average 4 to 6 hours on the trail, often with significant elevation gain.
Thursday, Hike #8: Trapper Creek (Carson) Difficult, 7 miles round trip, 1500 feet elevation gain. Limit 12. Hike through old growth forest along a scenic creek in the Trapper Creek wilderness. Hobbit-like atmosphere, unusual fungi, minor stream crossings. Sticks recommended.
Meeting location: Glenhaven Park parking lot (next to Madison High School) on the corner of NE 82nd Ave. & NE Siskiyou St. From 82nd, turn West on Siskiyou. Park on the East side of the lot facing 82nd Ave. Return times are approximate & will vary depending on hiking & driving conditions.
(Advanced Hike for Health) Hikers new to the program are required to attend the free Walking and Hiking Orientation class and must attend both a Hike for Health Qualifier (or Metro Mover hike indicated as "Hike for Health Qualifier") AND an Advanced Hike for Health hike to receive a skill level assessments before moving on to Advanced Hike for Health hikes. Hikers wishing to qualify must notify hike leader before the hike. Hiking boots required. To receive a credit or refund upon withdrawal, call 503-823-4328 at least one week before the hike date.
