Ethics of Self Care
Course Description:
This interactive training will explore the reason that self-care is an ethical imperative for helping professionals. Social Workers are at high risk for burn-out and compassion fatigue. Participants will be asked to critically evaluate the NASW Code of Ethics and the standards around ethical responsibilities to the profession and colleagues. Participants will engage with a self-care quiz to allow for reflection on their own self care practices and critically examine their personal risk level for compassion fatigue. Participants will have an opportunity to share their favorite self-care techniques and discuss barriers to practicing good self-care.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand why self-care is an ethical imperative for social workers
- Understand the difference between burn out and compassion fatigue
- Have an understanding their own personal self-care practices and gauge risk for compassion fatigue
- Learn about self-care techniques and share ideas with colleagues
- Understand professional responsibility under NASW Code of Ethics
