Description

This course is designed to certify participants as a Starfish Swimming Instructor (SSI) in the Swim School portion of the program. Participants will learn the skills and techniques required to successfully teach swimming lessons and water safety. All candidates will be required to complete approximately 8 hours of on-line training prior to the first water session. Participants will receive a link from their instructor on the first day of Orientation which will give them access to the on-line portion of class. Anyone interested in teaching swimming lessons with the City of Phoenix must have a Starfish Swimming instructor (Swim School) certification.

Prerequisites: Must be 15 years old prior to the last day of class and be able to successfully complete the pre-course swimming skills test.

This pool is heated and the majority of all in person sessions will be conducted in the water. Swimsuit, towels and water are required for every class. Snacks and goggles are recommended.

Current City of Phoenix Aquatics personnel will be paid for their SSI course hours (26 course hours).

The registration fee of $125.00 will be waived.

  • If the employee drops the course and doesn't complete it for any reason, they will not be paid for additional attempts to take the course at a later date.
  • If the employee fails the course, they will have a second opportunity to take the course and will be paid for the course hours.
