DELAWARE POLICE DEPARTMENT: SCAMS

Thursday, July 13, 1--2 p.m.

Officer Joseph Kolp, from the Delaware Police Department will share the latest information on different scams, how to best avoid them, and what to do if you find you are involved in one.

DELAWARE POLICE CHIEF: ADAM MOORE NEW

Friday, July 14, 1—2 p.m.

Chief Adam Moore from the Delaware Police Department will share an overview of the Delaware Police Department. Chief Moore began his law enforcement career in 1996. He was appointed to serve as the 13th Chief of Police for the City of Delaware, Ohio on September 13th, 2022. During his tenure in Delaware, Moore has worked assignments as a patrol officer, detective, school resource officer, patrol sergeant, administrator for the city jail and holding facility, and support services captain. He held oversight authority for the department’s investigative and community education bureaus. Chief Moore is a former member of the Delaware County Crisis Negotiation team and served as the primary negotiator on multiple deployments. He is the current chair of the Certified Law Enforcement Executive training program advisory board, the chair of the Delaware County Guardianship Board, and serves as a director on the board of Helpline of Delaware and Morrow County. He routinely speaks on various topics at Ohio Wesleyan University and is a long-time instructor in the department’s Citizen’s Police Academy Program. Moore holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the Ohio State University, a Master degree in Public Safety from the University of Virginia, is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College, is a Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) and a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session #272.

LIFE AT THE TIME OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION NEW

Wednesday, July 19, 10 a.m.—noon

A different time...a different place...What if you were there? Join Van Young, local historian as he shares life at the time of the American Revolution. Which side would you have taken? Were you forced to take a side? Would you have been in battle? Before 1775, thirteen colonies in American belonged to England. This presentation talks about the fight to be free and what life was like in colonial days.

MEMORY AND STRESS

Thursday, July 20, 1—2:15 p.m.

Join Assistant Professor of Psychology, Kira Bailey, OWU, for this discussion on memory tips. It will come as no surprise to most of us that stress can have detrimental effects on learning and memory. Fortunately, there are a few tricks for reducing stress-related memory failures even when you can't eliminate the source of the stress.

ICK FACTOR: CHALLENGES IN U.S. FOOD REGULATORY POLICY NEW

Wednesday, August 2, 1--2:15 p.m.

How does the U.S. government structure affect foodborne illness, or your ability to find allergy-friendly food at restaurants? How does it determine whether students get a free lunch at school? In this session, learn how systematic choices in government design can, literally, make you sick. Franchesca Nestor will lead this presentation. She has a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D in Political Science from, West Virginia University and a M.P.P. on Public Policy from the University of Chicago. Franchesca Nestor is the Assistant Professor of Politics & Government at Ohio Wesleyan University.

ALUM CREEK STATE PARK: OVERVIEW AND ANIMALS! NEW

Wednesday, Aug. 9, 1—2 p.m.

Learn about Alum Creek State Park and the opportunities and activities available to the public. Then learn about some of the wildlife found in Ohio, including meeting a couple of live animal ambassadors and trying your skills at a guessing game with pelts and skulls.

Lindsey Krusling, Naturalist from Alum Creek State Park with the Division of Parks and Watercraft from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is the presenter.

OHIOHEALTH SERIES: HEART HEALTH OVERVIEW NEW

Thursday, Aug. 10, 1—2 p.m.

Dr. Vincent J. Nardy, DO from OhioHealth, will present a heart health overview featuring signs of heart distress, prevention ideas, symptoms, testing, and potential corrective actions.

DELAWARE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT NEW

Tuesday, Aug. 15, 10—11 a.m.

Delaware County Emergency Management staff will discuss the meteorological hazards we experience in Delaware County. Meteorologists forecast the hazards so local residents know what to do to prepare. Presenters: Alex McCarthy, Director of Delaware County’s Emergency Management program has a background in meteorology, having received his undergrad and graduate degrees in atmospheric science from The Ohio State University. Scott Stewart is the Deputy Director of Delaware County Emergency Management. He has an extensive background in the fire service. Scott received his Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from The Ohio State University and his Masters degree in Public Administration from Anna Maria College.

FIRE SAFETY 101 NEW

Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1—2 p.m.

Lt. Bill Jones, Inspector/Investigator from the Delaware Fire Department will share tips on fire safety and answer your questions.

Lt. Jones is a firefighter, EMT-P, HAZ-MAT, Inspector, Instructor, Public Educator and Fire Investigator. He is currently in charge of the Delaware Risk Reduction Division and can speak about the Delaware Fire Department, the Ohio Fire Code, general fire science, fire safety, HAZ-MAT responses, EMS and fire investigations.

AMERICAN HISTORY FACTS AND TRIVIA

Thursday, August 17, 1—3 p.m.

Local historian, Van Young, will share an entertaining and educational presentation on various facts (both historical and unique) as well as trivia about our nation’s history. He will cover everything from the founding fathers to entertainment, sports, and culture. Audience members are asked questions. There is plenty of interaction. Have fun while learning about our great country.

LANDSCAPE PLANTS THAT BECOME INVASIVE IN NATURAL AREAS NEW

Tuesday, Aug. 29, 1—2:15 p.m.

Some showy landscape plants have escaped and developed into monocultures in natural areas; woods, prairies, and wetlands. Learn where they came from and how they are affecting our natural areas. Presenter Nora Hiland earned a B.S. in ornamental horticulture from California State University, Fresno. She has worked and volunteered in horticulture all of her adult life. She helped charter the Ohio Invasive Plants Council in 2005 and became a Master Gardener in 2009.

Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1—2 p.m.

Dr. Brian Steginsky, DO, from Orthopedic ONE’s Westerville office is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon who has been in practice in central Ohio since 2018. He provides comprehensive nonsurgical and surgical orthopedic foot and ankle care, from total ankle arthroplasty to minimally invasive surgical techniques. Today he will talk about self-care for our feet.

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

Thursday, Sept. 14, 1—3 p.m.

Enjoy looking back, remembering and laughing with local historian, Van Young. This presentation goes back to the 60’s and 70’s as we see things from a time long, long, ago. Clear away your cobwebs as we reminisce about growing up and growing old. How long was your hair? What were your favorite TV shows? Enjoy interaction and commentary from, as some might say, the “best of times”.

Have you ever wondered how to get rid of your extra stuff without the hassle of holding a garage sale? Learn how to sell your items on Facebook Marketplace. Carol Wallenfelsz will lead you step-by-step through the process of listing items on Facebook, options for accepting payment, and how to safely complete a sale. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2—3 p.m.

Naturalist Liz Neroni from Preservation Parks will share information on the much-loved monarch butterfly. Don’t miss this very informative talk about the amazing butterfly.

"DOC, WHY DOES MY SHOULDER HURT?” NEW

Friday, Sept. 22, 1—2 p.m.

Dr. Iorio will present on common causes of shoulder pain. Dr. Iorio is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at The Hand Center who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgeries — treating conditions that span the shoulder to fingertips.
