Description: Ice skating lessons are held one day per week for 6 weeks. Come and join in on the fun! Each lesson is 30 minutes long. Lessons are $50 per person, per session, ice skates not included. Rentals are available for $6 per night at the skate shack. Certificates will be awarded for successful completion of classes.
Basic 2 & 3 is designed for 5 year olds and older mastering the skills learned in Basic 1. Students will focus on forward stroking and crossovers, forward and backward glides using one and two feet, moving snow-plow stops and swizzle pumps. Note: Forward crossovers are very difficult to learn and more than one or two sessions may be necessary to move to the next level.
Helpful Hints from the Ice Skating Instructor!
What to wear - Warm clothes that allow you to move. It's a good idea to wear snow pants or lots of layers on their bottoms for padding when they fall.
Helmets are recommended for this age level - bike helmets are fine. Gloves should be worn for when they fall too. Gloves and hand warmers can be purchased in the skate shack.
Make sure you wear wool socks for cold weather - cotton socks chill feet the fastest!
Skates - Rentals are $6.00 per night and are great if you have never skated before or don't have your own skates. If you wish to buy skates, make sure they are leather or have a system where they can bend their ankles. Lace up ones work best. Don't buy plastic skates. One piece molded plastic does not allow them to bend. Make sure the ankles do not flop to the side from lack of support. Big 5 and other sporting goods stores may have them. Spokane and Wenatchee have stores that sell skates. Online is also a good source - Jackson and Reidell are good figure skates along with LL Bean. Double blades are not recommended since they do not glide well.
We don't allow walkers in class but they are great for practice out of class.
