Description
Hone your focus and experience the calm of a modern Samurai. Join martial artist Amos E. Smith for an introduction to the basics of formal kenjutsu study, presented informally with all equipment provided. Kenjutsu, which originated with the samurai class of feudal Japan, is also a practice in awareness and control of body, breath, and spirit. Classes begin with safety and basic movement, then move into breathing and basic movement techniques, and lastly delve into partner practice, basic attacks and responses.

Amos began his study of the many martial arts of Japan in 1977. His journey includes training in karate, aikijutsu, aikido, shodo, kyudo and zen. For the past 18 years, Amos has narrowed his focus to Japanese Swordsmanship, or Kenjutsu, and is honored to offer the UW community his knowledge and expertise in this ancient artform.
