Description
Dive into a whole new, vibrant jazz camp program at Miller Creek Middle School this summer! Students will have the opportunity to work with three local jazz professionals to improve skills on their individual instruments while exploring jazz, blues, funk and rock music. Players will be exposed to jazz masters, composition, and improvisation. They will be divided into small combo groups of comparable skill levels, and rotated among the three instructors to focus on woodwinds, brass and rhythm section skills. At the end of the two-week session, students will perform live at the Fillmore Jazz Festival.
Afternoon Combos Includes: Students will dig deeper into improvisation, combo arrangements and specific instrumental techniques and their role in the group. Minimum Experience - Two or more years of experience in a school music ensemble, the ability to read simple melodies and learn more complex melodies, and the desire to play in a jazz combo!
Instructors Steve and Ella Steinberg - have been professional musicians and music educators for over 30 years. Mr. Steve Steinberg is the band and jazz band director for the Dixie School District and Dr. Ella Steinberg is the band and jazz band director at White Hill Middle School. They both co-teach jazz improvisation and jazz history courses at the College of Marin.
Mike Schulist has instructed Science and Jazz Combos at Miller Creek Middle School for the last 20 years. Mr. Schulist?s combos have performed all over Marin County, and recorded ten CD?s in the studio.
