Biography:
Nancy Peterson's passion is teaching art to children and youth. Her energy, flexibility, and patience create a classroom environment in which students are not only taught the fundamentals of a particular medium but are encouraged to put their own creative stamp on projects. Her goals are to instill in each student the enjoyment of art in all its variety and the courage to experiment to find their own way of artistic expression.
Nancy considers herself a "renaissance artist": she works in (and teaches) multiple media including ceramics, stained glass, mosaics, beading and jewelry making, mixed media needle arts, and liturgical arts.
Nancy has thirty years of teaching experience: prior to the Indianapolis Art Center, she taught for the Carmel Clay Parks Department and the Midland, Michigan Center for the Arts. She studied art at the graduate level at the University of Tennessee after earning a bachelor's degree from Westminster College.
