Description: ages 13-Adult, all instruments welcome
Students should have 2 years of experience on their instrument and be able to play at least a pentatonic scale
Throughout time, small flexible ensembles have proven to be a very exciting way to experience many genres of music firsthand. Performing on your instrument in a "band" is a fun way to use your instrumental skills, learn to hear music structurally, and make music you enjoy and want to play for your community. In this class, open to all instrumentalists with two or more years of playing experience, we will study the framework of the blues and use it to analyze and learn songs from other popular music genres. All class participants will be assigned to small bands and will make arrangements of a traditional blues tune and at least one song of the band’s choosing. NOTE: Participants will use the free program, BandLab, as part of this class offering. NOTE: If Saturday 3:00-4:00 class fills, alternate meeting times will be added as needed based on participant availability.
