Description
Prerequisite: Ability to read and understand English; Basic computer knowledge using computer with high-speed internet access with supported computer operating systems and internet/web browsers; Adobe Flash Player; and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Topics include: A comprehensive study of medical insurance billing, introduction to CPT1, ICD2 &HCPCS3 coding and collection strategies; Procedures and paperwork involving various insurance providers including, Medicare, Medi-Cal, TRICARE, CHAMPVA, California Workers' Compensation System and Managed Care plans for inpatient and outpatient claims; Privacy rules and regulations involving patient confidential information governed by HIPAA; Set-up a mock medical practice using web-based software to enter new practice information, new patient demographic and insurance information, patient billing, electronic and paper claims processing. Mandatory Online Orientation: Saturday, September 30, 10-11am.
