This course trains candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress. The courses and presentations include Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, three adult courses as well as the Basic Water Rescue course and the PersonalWater Safety course. To enroll, instructor candidates must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the training and successfully complete the precourse session which includes demonstration of swimming skills at Learn-to-Swim Level 4.
This course is offered in a blended learning format and candidates will have an online lessons to complete before attending each of the in-person skill sessions listed below. Candidates can expect to spend approximately 20 hours outside of the class devoted to reading, preparing written lesson plans, and completing the online component. While hard copy materials will be supplied for use in class, candidates are encouraged to access the free digital versions of the required textbooks well in advance so they can start their reading and preparations. Registration fee = $525 paid to the YMCA Greenwich plus a separate $38 certificate fee paid directly to the Red Cross when enrolling in the online portion of the training course. Registration fee includes hard copy set of required textbooks -- Swimming and Water Safety, and the Water Safety Instructor Manual.

Transfer request with more than 7 days notice will be honored as availability permits without penalty.
Cancellation within 7 days prior to the start of Day 1 of your course -- no refund applies.
Transfer requests within 7 days prior to the start of your course, $75 transfer processing fee applies.
No refunds for those who do not successfully meet all course completion requirements.
Failed pre-requisite swim skills evaluation on Day 1 of training constitutes cancellation. No refund applies. However, those who do not pass the pre-req swim skills evaluation on Day 1 of training may request that their registration fee be applied toward a future course offering -- a $75 processing fee applies. This forward application of registration fees may be requested only once.
