Session 1 (8-12 year olds): December 29th, 10am-1pm
We regret that scholarships are not available for workshops.
I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. I started
dancing at a very young age, and my energy and enthusiastic personality lead me
to shows in school plays and singing in church. My mom saw an audition notice
in the local paper and asked me if I'd like to audition, and I happily said
"yes!" not knowing anything about auditioning or being in a real
show. But I auditioned for my first show at the age of nine, for the role of a
princess in The King and I, at the Grand Rapids Civic Theater. I was cast and
immediately knew I wanted to be a performer.
I began auditioning and doing shows at every theater in
the area - Grand Rapids Civic Theater, Circle Theater, Actors' Theater, Jewish
Theater, LLC, Hope Summer Repertory Theater, and The Red Barn Playhouse.
I knew I wanted to pursue a career in acting, so I went
to college for Musical Theater, at Point Park University for two years, I then
took a year leave of absence to do the non-equity national tour of Hairspray
the musical, playing Brenda and understudying Tracy and Penny, and then
transferred to Penn State University. I transferred into the program, repeated
my sophomore year, and finally graduated with my BFA in Musical Theater from
Penn State University.
I moved to NYC two weeks after graduation, in May of
2010, and have lived in NYC ever since!
After signing with my first agents, I began auditioning
immediately, and babysitting for families throughout the city as my "day
job." My first real NYC job came when I was again cast as Brenda in
Hairspray the musical at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. Then I was
cast as the female swing in My One and Only at the Goodspeed Opera House, in
CT. And a huge break came when I was cast in the new musical Newsies! at the
Paper Mill Playhouse. Then came Natalie in Next to Normal at the Milwaukee Rep.
And then the incredible news came that Newsies was going to Broadway and I
would be going as well! I was finally going to make my Broadway debut! Which I
did, in the spring of 2012, and what a dream come true. I stayed with Newsies
until February 2013, playing the role of Hannah/Smalls Newsie and understudying
Katherine Plumber. I performed the role of Katherine 12 times during my time
with Newsies; my first lead role on Broadway! I left Newsies to play my dream
role of Mille Dillmount in a joint production at the Maltz Jupiter Theater in
FL and then at the Paper Mill Playhouse. I was incredibly blessed to move straight
into Mamma Mia! on Broadway, playing the lead role of Sophie Sheridan. It was
truly a dream come true, and I enjoyed every moment of that experience. After
my contract with Mamma Mia! I went to Sarasota, FL and worked on a new musical
called Hero playing the lead female role of Jane Foster, at the Asolo Rep.
I came back to the city in June and have been auditioning
ever since. I also started back up doing my "survival job" of
babysitting. I have been a reader/singer for auditions and have been involved
in a few readings for new musicals. I audition every week for different
theater, tv, and film roles, but the right project and fit hasn't come along
yet, and no secrets!, I currently do not have any major projects in the works.
Sometimes you have to be patient, and wait for the one that is right for you,
and that's what I'm doing right now!
