Description

MOUNTAIN WAVES & DOWNSLOPE WINDSTORMS

Large scale wind crossing mountain ranges or isolated peaks can result in disturbed, wavy air flow patterns near and downstream of the obstruction. The disturbed air pattern can result in damaging wind events called "downslope wind storms" on the lee side of mountain ranges. The disturbed air pattern can also create dangerous extreme turbulence for aircraft passing overhead. this unit will describe the formation and mechanics of Mountain Waves and downslope wind storms.

Learn about our different weather patterns in 4 separate classes. Each class is focused on a specific weather pattern. Class is instructed by Portland Meteorologist and CCC Faculty member in the Fire Science Dept, John Saltenberger.
