Description
This class is taught by a Dorrie Dean, a cultural anthropologist who is currently involved in the Anchorage School Districts "Artist in Residence" program. This class will focus on pine needle baskets. These baskets have been traditionally created by weavers in the southwestern U.S., such as the Seminole and Coushatta, along with the Gullah weavers of South Carolina. Starting with a wood base, weavers will use needles from the long-leaf pine of Florida to create their own basket. All materials for the class, including a hand-out of weaving instructions and color photos are included. You will start the basket in class, and then take it home to finish.
