Description: Students study various visual arts concepts, compiling a portfolio throughout the 15 week semester. Topics covered include pen and ink techniques (quill pens and ink, line drawing, brush and ink, and ink wash), color theory (watercolor applications), and figure drawing (classical proportions of the adult head and figure, body language and facial expressions). Student artwork will be showcased at various Faith Center events and performances.

Notes:
In order to participate online, students will need access to a computer and an internet connection. Students will log onto the Faith Center Learning Management System (LMS) in order to complete class work. Students will be provided access to the Faith Center LMS prior to the start of classes. Students should have the ability to print documents and assignments. Assignments will be scheduled throughout the week. This asynchronous online class will not meet in real time, but the instructor will have weekly scheduled office hours available for students.

Asynchronous Learning
Asynchronous learning is a term used to describe forms of education, instruction, and learning that do not occur in the same place or at the same time. The term is most commonly applied to forms of online learning in which students learn from instruction—such as prerecorded video lessons or game-based learning tasks that students complete on their own. Asynchronous learning also encompasses a wide variety of instructional interactions, including email exchanges between teachers, online discussion boards, group projects and assignments. Faith Center will use a Learning Management System to organize instructional materials and correspondence. Faith Center classes will be scheduled through out the week on a regular schedule.

Materials needed for Art 1: A notebook to take notes Prang oval watercolor set of 8 colors + brush included 9" x 12" newsprint pad 9" x 12" two ply bristol pad #2 pencil Ebony pencil (or charcoal pencil) India ink 2 oz. bottle Speedball India ink is the recommended brand. #102 crowquill pen nib (several) Pen holder compatible with #102 nib Kneaded eraser Pilot razor point black (fine point marker) A brush that comes to a fine point, such as a Kolinsky #2, Raphael #2, or a Loew-Cornell #2.
