Do you want to build yourself a mountain bike, and then ride it through the Capitol State Forest? Join TOP on this trip to do just that! This trip will be an all-out mountain biking and learning experience; you will build a mountain bike in a week, and then test your bike on the trail. Build a mountain bike (with volunteer help) at the Evergreen Bike Shop. After your bike is complete, take it on the trail to test your body and your bike mechanic skills. We plan to ride a 15 mile loop, starting at the Mima Falls trailhead. Be prepared to get muddy, wet and sore. The trip will be a test of your physical endurance and improve your ability to problem solve when bike issues arise on the trail. This trip will be a single day trip, leaving on May 7th at 08:00 in the morning. We plan to be back at the Evergreen State College the same day by 17:00.
Pre-trip meetings and bike building workshops will be held the week prior to May 7th. Friday, April 28th from 10:00-16:00, will be the first bike building workshop. Monday, May 1st, from 16:45-21:00, will be the second bike building workshop. And Wednesday, May 3rd, from 10:00 ? 4:00, will be the final bike building work shop. People who need more time building their bike will be able to use the bike shop during its hours of operation, while a bike shop volunteer is present. The bike building process is intended to improve your bike mechanics skills, as well as give you the freedom to try your own hands and mind at bike mechanics.
If you have a bike frame you would like to build up, bring it. Parts may be limited and some monetary investment may be required on the participants? part. If you do not have a bike frame picked out, we will attempt to fit you with a proper sized frame and components. Most parts are available at the bike shop; however, it can sometimes be challenging to find parts.
If you already have a mountain bike, and do not need to build one, bring your own bike. Feel free to use the bike shop to tune up your bike, and to get to know the local bike shop community! This trip will be led by Kaios Siekmann, Sarah McCarthy and Kira Sabini.
