Description
BLACK DIAMOND MINES REGIONAL PRESERVE - Celebrate Labor Day by enjoying your East Bay Parks and join Black Diamond staff to uncover the forgotten history of the coal and sand mines buried in these hills.
History Above the Mines 10:00am - 11:30am: Learn how an ancient world shaped the local landscape and attracted both coal and sand miners to this area. Discover what life was like for immigrant miners and their thriving communities while exploring what pieces of evidence remain. This program will be 1-mile and take place entirely above ground.
Somersville Stroll 1:00pm - 2:00pm: Once a vibrant town, this area now holds reminders of its past. Join us on a 1-mile walk as we use historic photos, maps, and clues on the landscape to piece together the past.
Meet in the upper parking lot, which is 1-mile past the kiosk.
$5/per vehicle applies when kiosk is attended.
No-registration required; Drop-in Program only.
