RESERVA REGIONAL DE MINAS BLACK DIAMOND - La dureza de la piedra y la fragilidad del cristal. A principios del siglo XX, la Mina Hazel Atlas fue un eslabón fundamental en el proceso de la creación del vidrio. Descubra las historias de los mineros que extraían la roca que alguna vez fue un antiguo lecho marino y ahora forma parte de su vida diaria.
Todos los participantes deben tener 7 años como mínimo, y se requiere la participación de los padres. Se proveerán cascos de uso obligatorio. Los espacios subterráneos pueden causar claustrofobia en algunas personas.
No olvide llevar una chaqueta, dado que visitará espacios subterráneos de la mina donde las temperaturas se mantienen en alrededor de 55 ºF (13 ºC) todo el año.
Los recorridos no son accesibles para sillas de ruedas. La caminata desde el estacionamiento incluye terreno empinado e irregular.
Llegue por lo menos 15 minutos antes para tener tiempo suficiente para estacionarse y caminar. Estaciónese en el estacionamiento superior, que está a una 1 milla (1.6 km) después del kiosco. Atraviese la puerta donde se encuentra el Marcador Histórico. Continúe subiendo la colina y cruce el área de picnic hasta llegar al Centro de Visitantes Greathouse.

BLACK DIAMOND MINES REGIONAL PRESERVE - Hard as rock, fragile as glass. In the early 20th century, the Hazel-Atlas Mine was a critical link in the process to create glass. Discover the stories of the miners who removed the rock that once was an ancient seabed and is now part of your everyday life.
All participants must be age 7 or older, and parent participation is required. Hard hats are required and provided. Underground spaces may feel claustrophobic for some people.
Please bring a jacket; you will be underground in the mine, where temperatures are in the mid-50's year-round.
The Hazel-Atlas Mine Tour is not wheelchair accessible. The walk from the parking lot includes some steep and uneven terrain.
Arrive early, at least 15 minutes, to allow enough time for parking and walking. Park in the upper parking lot, 1 mile past the kiosk. Walk past the gate where the Historic Marker is. Continue up the hill past the picnic area and meet at the Greathouse Visitor Center.Each tour is limited to 15 total maximum participants.
Cost is $5 per person.
