Description
WILDCAT CANYON REGIONAL PARK (ALVARADO STAGING AREA): Now is the time to dive right in! Let’s spend the height of spring exploring parks in search of our fluttering friends. They come in all shapes and colors, from the tiny Pygmy Blue to the majestic Tiger Swallowtail, from the Mournful Duskywing the Great Purple Hairstreak, and everyone in between. We’ll learn about butterfly families, habitats, and food plants on each trip. As we peer around in patches of wildflowers, we will also keep an eye out for native bees and moths, and won’t neglect singing birds if they want to visit.
Meet at Alvarado Staging Area for a big beautiful loop of 8 miles through Wildcat Canyon, highlighting Havey Creek. The trail may be muddy in some spots. About 1,000 feet of elevation gain.
Bring binoculars and a hand lens if you have them available. We will have some to pass out as needed. Please also keep food, water and comfort in mind. Hats and/or sunscreen are recommended.
