Description: The District Gymnastics Academy offers a quality gymnastics program for all competitive team skill levels according to USA Gymnastics guidelines. We provide a safe, challenging program that rewards our students with high degrees of strength, coordination, and self-confidence. Invitations are extended to individuals who have demonstrated a strong dedication to the requirements of competitive training and have met the required skills and scores throughout the competitive season. Focus is on JO Compulsory Level 4 - 5.
Biography:Janet Cook's amateur career includes having attended the Oregon Gymnastics Academy for her training where she had the opportunity to perform at many community events. She was a cheerleader throughout middle school, high school and college. Janet is the Recreation Coordinator for The District Gymnastics Academy having implemented the program in January of 2007. Janet brings to the program a professional career including over 15 years of coaching gymnastics and 8 years experience as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator for Kaiser Permanente in Oregon and Washington. Janet has coached gymnasts from toddlers through optional level competitive teams producing numerous state and regional championship medalists. Janet established the first boys team in the Coachella Valley resulting in several of the boys earning 1st place in many events, starting with their very first competition. In addition, Janet was a competitive figure skater that led to a professional ice skating career spanning nearly a decade performing with such shows as Holiday on Ice in Europe, America on Ice in Japan and Stars on Ice in the United States. Throughout her professional career, she was a dancer and choreographer for many shows and even had the opportunity to model in a fashion show in Milan, Italy. Myself and all staff receive continuous training on the most up-to-date drills and techniques. They attend clinics and congresses throughout the year, which are instructed by National, World, and Olympic coaches and judges. The coaching staff at The District Gymnastics Academy consistently earn more than the recommended continuing education credits through USA Gymnastics University, and that commitment to excellence is echoed in the success of the program, and in the kids' love for the sport.
Biography:Sonia brings over 14 years experience having coached at various clubs throughout the Coachella Valley. She has been with The District Gymnastics Academy since March 2008. Sonia trained and competed for several years as a level 8 gymnast at Gymnastics Olympica in Van Nuys. Sonia was also a competitive springboard diver and swimmer as well as a competitive body builder. Her love for gymnastics shows through in her coaching from her tiny tot gymnasts to her competitive team. If you're lucky, you may catch her demonstrate a few tricks of her own.
