Description: 

This course is designed to teach students the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course will be taught in a blended learning format including a combination of in-person and online training. Students will need access to a computer to complete assignments outside of class. Upon successful completion of all written exams and water skills, this course certifies participants in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding (valid for 2 years), First Aid (valid for 2 years), and CPR/AED. for the Professional Rescuer (valid for 2 year). Come prepared to swim each class session. Please note full and complete attendance at all sessions is required to receive your certification. Certifications will be emailed 2-3 business days following course.

If you complete this course successfully, are hired on to the Town of Danville Aquatics Staff for the summer of 2021, and complete a full season of employment with a passing evaluation, you will receive $125 back for your certification.

Due to COVID-19, there will be modifications to the course. Face coverings are required for class. Face coverings will be removed while in the pool. This program will follow all health orders specified by Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS), and the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Prerequisites: 15 years of age or older by the last day of the course and pass the required pre-skills test. Pre-skills test: 300 yard continuous swim. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke; surface dive 7-10 feet; retrieve a 10 pound object; return to the surface; swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object; exit the water without using a ladder or steps; complete within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Tread water for 2 minutes only using legs.
