Taught by Lily Be, a Moth StorySLAM and GrandSLAM champion from Chicago, Illinois this non-credit course is designed to take your personal experience and turn it into a story worth telling. Draw from your own life to find material that is honest and relatable and learn to tell your story in a way that is compelling and entertaining. Storytelling: Your Experience is for anyone with unique, exciting or intense personal experiences looking for help crafting these emotionally-driven moments from their lives into strong, evocative, and conversational Moth-like stories. These stories do not have to be comedic but should definitely be personal and stirring.
What will I learn?
Theme, finding and teasing out elements that support your theme, how to discover an organic structure, and how to perfect your style.
What will I do in this class?
This class is focused on putting your story on its feet early and often, and using these repetitions to discover vital elements and discard the pieces that don't fit.
Who can take this class?
Adult students ages 19 and up who are ready to tell a powerful, personal story, or who are looking for the tools that will make them ready.
How long is this class?
This meets for 2 hours for six weeks.
What do I need to bring?
Your personal experiences, courage and a notebook.
Will there be a performance?
An optional student showcase follows at the end of the session.
