Description
Majestic Summer Theatre Adventure Camp
Director: Charles Skinner
Music & Vocal Direction: Rebecca Douglas
We are so excited to offer the third season of the Majestic Summer Theatre Adventure Camp from July 8th-26th, 2019, with performances July 25th-27th, 2019. This summer we'll be keeping cool with a production of Disney's Frozen JR.! A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!
Students will learn about acting, singing, dancing, and technical theater by producing this exciting show from start to finish! No experience required. Open to Ages 9 to 18. Younger students permitted with director approval.
"Yes, I want to be involved! What can I expect to do? How do I get ready?"
Come to Auditions on Saturday, April 27th from 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. at The Majestic Theatre. Wear clothes and shoes (no flip-flops) that are easy to move in. Practice singing 16 bars of a song of your choice from a musical (Disney and Broadway songs are great), or one minute of song preparation. There will be a piano player provided, so bring your music with you. Please no CDs or a Capella singing; you must bring sheet music with you.
At auditions, you will get your photo taken, fill out forms, get information on camp registration (or register right then!), and get measured for costumes and a t-shirt. You will meet the Directors and Staff. You'll sing your prepared song, then wait until a group is big enough for Janet to teach you some dance steps in another room, and then you will come back and show them off. You may be asked to read some lines from the show. We will play some theatre games and answer questions from campers and parents. (Parents: This is a fluid process. Some students will finish before 5:00, so plan accordingly.) That's it! Expect a fun afternoon with friends and a preview of what we do during the Majestic Summer Theatre Adventure! We will announce the cast list by May 3rd.
"This sounds fun, but I don't really like acting and singing and dancing. I'd love to help with the technical or backstage elements though"
If being onstage is not your thing, you can learn about the behind-the-scenes world of technical theatre: sets, costumes, make-up, design, props, lights, sound, stage management, etc (Hint: This is where all the MAGIC happens!!!) Note: If your child wants to do just the tech part, they do not need to come to the audition and audition, just enroll in the class and note that they only want to do tech in the notes.
"When does the camp/show happen?"
Adventure Dates: July 8th-26th, 2019
Adventure Hours: 9:00AM to 4:00PM
Performance Showtimes: July 25th & 26th, at 7:00PM and July 27th at 3:00PM
"What do I bring to camp sessions?"
Clothes and shoes you can dance and move in, a pencil, a water bottle, a lunch, a light sweater or jacket, and a SMILE! Put your name on everything, and then put it all in a bag with your name on it. Healthy, wholesome snacks will be provided daily. You can find jazz shoes at The Glass Slipper and K-Mart. Soft Star shoes work, too, as do regular dress shoes - as long as you can Dance, Dance, Dance in them!
"How much does this cost?"
The cost for each adventurer for the three week camp is $450 for Corvallis residents and $562.50 for out-of-city residents, with a $150 discount for siblings. Must enroll in person to apply sibling discount. Families may apply for the Family Assistance Program found at the Parks and Recreation website (https://www.corvallisoregon.gov/parksrec/page/family-assistance-program).
