Description:
Do you speak music? Join TMS Piano Department Head Arthur Kane as he explores the concept of Music as a Second Language. Participants will compare spoken languages with the language of music, exploring form and style, as well as grammar and structure. Learn how musical notation relates to the grammar of a written sentence, and the differences that can be found in different forms of literature. Explore different historical eras (e.g., Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque) and the influence they had on both the written word and music. Sessions will consist of presentation, listening exercises, music theory, and small group discussion. Recommended for musicians and non-musicians alike.
