Description

Join us as we revisit the music of the Renaissance era! TMS faculty cellist David Ellis leads this listening appreciation class, focusing mainly on works for viol consort – a form of chamber music that was popularized in England. Through listening to works for this ensemble (as well as others), participants will explore how this evolution of music reflected much of the vocal and instrumental music of its time. Sessions will consist of presentation, listening exercises, and group discussion. Recommended for musicians and non-musicians alike. (This class is recommended for those interested in joining our Beginning Viol da Gamba course, coming to TMS in the Spring of 2021)

Additional Supplies Needed: None. The instructor will email listening assignments leading up to each session.
