Description:
Healthy RC is hosting a virtual series titled Teen Community Conversations. The City's teen empowerment program Healthy RC Youth Leaders has partnered with local mental health experts to provide a virtual series so teens can feel connected and join in on the conversation on topics such as Mood and Music, Reconnect and Foster Healthy Relationships, Facing Transitions using Spoken Word, and Safe Space to Talk About Race. This is an opportunity for teens to feel supported in a judgement-free environment and make connections with other teens in the community. Each week's facilitator will guide conversations, provide resources, and also lead exercises around coping skills for stress, anxiety, and depression.
Please make sure your account includes an email address. Once registered a email will be sent to you with instruction on how to join the Virtual Meeting on Zoom.
*This is an informative event that does not constitute a therapist-client relationship. This is not a substitute for professional diagnosis from a mental health professional
July 7: Mood and Music: Navigating Overwhelming Emotions Through Music. Have a discussion about expressing emotions in a healthy way with friends and family. Utilize music and the universal connection of music expression to help navigate these emotions.
July 21: Reconnect and Foster Healthy Relationships. Find strategies for forming new connections and cultivating friendships. Talk through what healthy connections mean to you and how to attract the right people in your path. Coping strategies include journaling for self reflection and letter writing as a communication tool for fostering connections.
August 4: Facing Transitions Using Spoken Word. We hope to showcase creative writing and poetry as a tool for teens to learn how to cope with transitions. Many teens are facing uncertainty in these transitions and it be insightful to see how we can infuse creative outlets for expression and connection through spoken word.
August 18: Safe Space to Talk About Race. We hope to create a safe space for teens to share experiences around racial trauma and foster healing among each other. We hope to tie in coping exercises that instill self-confidence through practicing affirmation as a tool for healing.
