F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 cautionary tale of Roaring Twenties excess has been challenged as recently as 1987 for language and sexual references. The most recent of several film adaptations, directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, won two Academy Awards and praise from Fitzgerald's own granddaughter.
