Description

Join artist/instructor Paula DeLay and health and safety expert Sarah Hawkins for the ALL NEW Art In Motion hiking series.

Art in Motion gives participants the opportunity to explore local trails with expert guidance and experience the natural world through movement and art. We'll start the day with some gentle exercises to warm up our bodies for the hike. Once we hit the trail, Sarah will point out the local flora, fauna, and natural history of the trail as well as provide safety (and snacks!) for all participants.

At certain points along the way, we?ll stop for art lessons from Paula. You will be introduced to:
- Basic plein air (outdoor) painting techniques (i.e., how to effectively identify your subject)
- Field sketching
- Field watercolor

Hike #1: Reservoir Canyon
Date: Saturday, March 9, 2019
Reservoir Canyon features one of the most unique trails in San Luis Obispo. Starting in a dense oak forest, you'll gently climb towards Reservoir Creek Falls, rock pools, and a swing surrounded by a collection of scrap metal sculptures. Our possible art subjects for this trip include flora and fauna of the foothills, rocks and waterfalls, and the sculpture ?garden.?

Please Note: Our local trails feature diverse terrain so participants should be:
- Able to walk up to two miles without a break and up to six miles total on uneven terrain
- Able to carry a small backpack with water, snacks, and art supplies

Classes will meet at the Trailhead at 9:00am, ready to hike by 9:15am. Detailed directions will be sent to registered students.
