Dynamic Abstracts in Transparent Watercolor with Risë Parberry
Move beyond painting painstakingly literal representations of objects to creating dynamically designed abstracts that draw viewers across the room and express the essence of your subject matter! Capitalize on the use of quality watercolor paper, transparent watercolors, and a bold, experimental attitude to produce unexpectedly fresh and powerful results. Achieve visual impact using value, color harmonies, spatial divisions, and your own unique artist?s mark. Discover your personal abstract predilection and inspiration. Learn about the use of symbols for emotional impact. Half sheet size projects will demonstrate tips and techniques for saving light values while freely painting medium and dark values with gorgeous surface textures. Previous experience with watercolor necessary.
Required Supply List:
PAPER:
1-2 half sheets (15?x 22?) Arches Bright White, Rough Finish, 300 lb. Watercolor Paper. (140 lb. paper is not recommended). 1-2 non-absorbent support boards for your paper such as plexi-glass or Coro-Plast, cut 1 inch larger than your paper, with 4+ clips to secure the paper.
BRUSHES:
1?and 2? flat wash brushes, at least one large round brush, 1 or more stiff synthetic brushes with a clean edge to effectively lift paint from the paper?s surface, and any other brushes you like.
PAINTS:
Pigments that granulate and lift such as Daniel Smith PrimaTek and Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolor are recommended. *Please bring one tube from each of the following categories:
? Dark Value: Bloodstone Genuine, Black Tourmaline Genuine, Sodalite Genuine, or Van Dyck Brown.
? Midtone: Italian Venetian Red, Monte Amiata Natural Sienna, Transparent Red Oxide, Transparent Brown Oxide, Fired Gold Ochre, Cerulean Blue, Terre Verte, Cobalt Teal Blue, or Rare Green Earth.
? Light Value: Cobalt Green Pale, Italian Burnt Sienna, Burgundy Yellow Ochre, Mars Yellow, Buff Titanium, Nickel Titanate Yellow, Naples Yellow, or Wisteria.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Your regular palette (don?t put the above colors in the wells), a stable object to elevate/prop your board 6-8 inches, #11 Xacto knife with new blades and something to cut on, Scotch Brand/3M matte finish removable clear tape (blue plaid label), Mr. Clean Magic Erasers (original), 5 small lidded containers for mixing, 2 large water containers, 1 toilet paper roll, 1 roll heavy duty paper towels, Kleenex, 1 natural elephant ear sponge, and 2 spray bottles: one fine, one with a broader spray.
