Description

“I became an artist and thank God I did, because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life.” Viola Davis, accepting the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for FENCES.

Whether you long to be a pro or just want to peek behind the curtain, studying acting provides a large set of skills including Self-Confidence, Imagination, Empathy, Cooperation, Concentration, Communication Skills, Fun, Emotional Outlets, Physical Fitness, Memory, and an Appreciation for Arts and Culture that will help you for the rest of your life!

Awaken your imagination, ignite your emotions, and open your mind to the transformative power of theatre. In this socially distanced workshop, teens will explore and rehearse a monologue of their own choice - the perfect way to come together but stay apart in theatre. Lessons, conversations, and theatre exercises will enhance the journey and open tools for application in the work.

Students should choose a contemporary dramatic monologue of two minutes or less for submission to the instructor by the first day of class. Best efforts to read the entire script of the play containing the monologue should be made, but are not mandatory, to enhance the learning process. Note: dramatic does not have to mean depressing - you can have some fun in your selection!

You can choose any monologue from the huge selection available contemporary theatre. As an alternative, some online free sources for monologues for teens include:
