VIRTUAL BEGINNERS HANDBUILDING WITH A TWIST/ Iris Eve Schaer

Mondays from 4 - 6 PM

March 29th - May 17th
8 Weeks
Ages 15+

In this virtual beginner’s course, we will explore sculpting basic hand-building forms while integrating human and animal forms. You will make three finished pieces of functional pottery. Transportation to Chastain Arts Center for firing or personal access to a kiln is necessary. This class fee includes 12.5lbs of 205 Stoneware Clay & a 2-hour glazing window at Chastain.

Additional hours of glazing can be purchased for $10/hr.

Additional items made outside of class can be fired for $10.


During the Spring 2021 Session, students will be able to drop off their greenware at Chastain during individually scheduled appointments for the first (bisque) firing. Materials are not included in the cost of these classes unless otherwise stated. Each bag of clay purchased ($27 for a 25lb bag) will allow up to 2 cubic feet of firing space. Overages will require an additional fee, $10 per cubic foot. If you would like additional glazing time, it can be purchased for a fee of $10 per hour. There will be a minimum of one-hour breaks between scheduled isolated glaze appointments for sanitization. Students will be required to wear masks and sanitize while at Chastain Arts Center.

If City of Atlanta reverts back to Phase I of the Mayor’s Reopening Plan, the building will be closed until we move back into Phase II.

Students will receive an email with the link to the Virtual Class between 1-3 days prior to the start of the virtual class.

All virtual classes will be hosted on Microsoft Teams.
