Description

In this course, students will learn how to properly alter their clothing to fit like a glove! The instructor will teach students how to modify clothing by machine and by hand with excellent craftsmanship. Students will utilize various stitches, tools, and machine settings to create clothes that last. This course teaches lifelong sewing skills, promotes self-reliance, and offers a way to save money. Students, alongside their peers, will fine-tune clothing they can take home and wear.

This course is for adults and teens. Students ages 13-17 must be registered to take the course with a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by the parent or guardian at each session. The student and guardian must also sign a Blanket Authorization Form. You can fill out the form by clicking here. This will also be sent in an email a week before the course begins and must be completed before the first session.

Required Materials: A sewing kit and a garment you would like to alter. If necessary, please bring any notions you need such as zippers and buttons, a spool of thread (for sewing machines) or embroidery thread (for embroidery, darning, and patchwork), and fabric. We will provide sewing machines, tools, and a limited selection of fabric. Please talk with the instructor on the first day if you have your own sewing machine that you would prefer to bring and use. You do not have to purchase the exact product nor from the same site in the linked example. The Art Academy of Cincinnati is not sponsored by Amazon.

Read our protocols here. By signing up for our programs, you and/or your minor student(s) are agreeing to abide by the rules and policies in the handbook.
