Description: This is the beginning course for a service technician. Studies refrigeration theory; characteristics of refrigerants, temperature and pressure; tools and equipment; soldering; brazing; refrigeration systems; system components; compressors; evaporators; and metering devices. Presents charging and evaluation of systems and leak detection. Explores servicing the basic system. Explains use and care of oils and additives and troubleshooting of small commercial systems. This class qualifies as 90 hours toward the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation's 240-hour requirement for a journeyman's exam tradesman license. The course also offers the EPA certification, Type 608. Testing fee not included. You can obtain 3 credits for Air 121 and 122 at John Tyler Community College with a qualifying score on their test out exam.
