Description

Ages: 15 - Adult. Versatile, fast-drying, bright and fun, acrylic paints are easy to use and suitable to a variety of projects from landscapes to abstractions. Instructor, Mary Thiefels, educator with Rec & Ed for nearly 20 years and founder of TreeTown Murals, will guide the class into making successful works of art through demonstrations, showcasing an explanation of all materials, in-depth color theory practices, color mixing, brush handling techniques, tricks, collage and mixed media. Class meets in-person on Mondays, 1/10, 1/24, 2/7, and Tuesday 2/22, 6-9pm where you practice your techniques and get feedback and guidance from Mary. On alternate weeks, class meets on Zoom on Tuesday 1/18 and Mondays 1/31, 2/14, 6-8pm where Mary will do live painting lessons and you are welcome to paint along during class to practice techniques. See receipt and online notes for a basic first day supply list. Prerequisite: Must have taken one acrylic painting class or comparable experience. Per current AAPS policy, all participants and staff will need to wear masks while indoors. 7 classes.


Activity meeting dates

Per current AAPS policy, all participants and staff will need to wear masks while indoors.

Virtual sessions can be accessed from a computer, tablet, or smartphone. To fully participate, you will need access to the Internet during class time, and a built-in camera/microphone on your device or a webcam if you'd like to communicate with the instructor in real-time.

Suggested Supply List: Acrylic paints:
  • Warm & cool primary colors: ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, primary red, alizarin crimson, medium cadmium yellow, lemon yellow, mars black, big tube of white;
  • bin or box for your supplies;
  • medium size canvas(s) 12 x 16 or 16 x 20 are the average sizes we use;
  • disposal pallet paper or FLAT plastic pallet;
  • metal pallet knife for mixing paint;
  • sketch pad of your choice;
  • drawing pencil,
  • brushes of various sizes
  • optional watercolor pencils;
  • Please NOTE: you do not need to have all of these items for the first painting project, except for canvas, brushes, & paint.
