Figure drawing is an active process; an engagement with material that is both physical and intellectual. In this class, students will be encouraged to work in terms of process rather than making a finished product, in order to foster curiosity and therefore, insight. The first two meetings will be spent without a model, but instead with a deep introduction to figure drawing, exploring the core of a body: bone, gesture, muscle and fat. We will talk about what is under the surface, in order to accurately SEE the surface by week 3. The following 6 classes will have a nude model present to draw from. We will have a theme each class, and start each class with a demo that relates to the theme. Our themes include: gesture, fat, portrait, hands/feet, surface tension, subtractive drawing, and how to draw playfully from life. All skill levels welcome. Please bring requested materials to class. Materials list available at sharonartstudio.org. The cost of the model is included in the price of the class.
