Description

Registration for lifeguarding classes can be refunded in full or transferred to another class more than two weeks prior to the pre-test for the class. Students who withdraw or transfer to another class after this date or do not pass the pre-test will receive a refund minus a $50 service fee.

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Class is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatics emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.

Candidates must successfully complete a pre-course on the day of the course:

Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

  1. Swim 150 yards of front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
  2. Tread water for two minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
  3. Swim 50 yards of front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.

Perform a 20 yard brick retrieval within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

A current American Red Cross lifeguarding certification is required to participate in this course (certifications that are less than 30 days expired are also accepted).
