Description

This class introduces the basics of writing for instruments and creating arrangements for piano and larger ensembles. After a review of scales, key signatures, and chords, students will learn how to arrange a leadsheet, make a reduction from an instrumental score, and create an arrangement of a solo piece or song for a larger group of instruments. Students will create projects using music notation software (Noteflight) and music production software (Soundtrap).

Students will complete assignments and projects in our online classroom which includes music theory, music notation, and music production software.

Classes designated Honors are enrichment options suitable for students who participate in Levine's merit programs or the Washington Musical Pathways Initiative.

This class is an appropriate option for students who have completed Music Theory Level 4 or AP Music Theory. Students who have not taken a music theory class at Levine should take an online placement test prior to registering for the class.
