Description

These small ensembles provide students of all levels and instruments with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of jazz and develop their skills with like-minded peers. Students are placed in age-appropriate ensembles based on instrument or voice, experience, and availability. Each group meets weekly with a member of Levine's expert jazz faculty, who coaches the students in studying and playing songs from the standard jazz repertoire and developing their improvisation abilities, understanding of jazz theory and history. Each session culminates in a recital for family/friends. Students are welcomed and encouraged to enroll for multiple consecutive sessions. Please note: An audition is required for all students age 11-18. To schedule an audition, please contact, Jeremy Castillo Contemporary Music Chair, JCastillo@levinemusic.org.

No audition is required for adult students, but, students should have at least one year of study on their instrument and basic skills in music-reading, improvisation, and playing from a fakebook. All instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome. Adult students are placed in combos with other adults. To begin placement, please complete the Jazz Combo Placement Form. For more information, please contact Contemporary Music Chair, Jeremy Castillo, JCastillo@levinemusic.org.
