Description

Naturalists from the Ornithology Center at Eagle Creek Park would like to welcome all people who enjoy birds to come and celebrate accessibility with us on Saturday, May 7th at the Eagle's Crest. This event will begin with a short presentation about why accessibility is crucial for environmental education, followed by introductions, and finally a half-day long Big Sit at the Eagle’s Crest.

You do not need to arrive at the beginning of the event (9:00), nor do you need to stay until it ends (1:30 pm); however, you are more than welcome to drop-in and help us count birds at any time! The Eagle's Crest gate will be open for vehicles and this will be a great opportunity to check out the paved ADA-compliant 1-mile loop trail.

Big Sit (n) : an event wherein participants list as many bird species as possible for a given period of time; the primary rule is that all observations must be made from within a circle no more than 17 feet (5.2 meters) in diameter. For more details about the rules visit the New Haven Bird Club's website!

When: Saturday May 7th 9:00 am -1:30 pm

Where: 7201 Fishback Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46278 – Eagle’s Crest is on the WEST side of the Eagle Creek Reservoir, NOT inside the main gates of the park.

Cost: FREE! There isn’t even an entrance fee on the West side!

Van-accessible parking will be available, information packets & resources for further learning will be provided, and some chairs will be provided and will be adjusted to suit everyone's needs. The Eagle's Crest rental facility which has ramps and restrooms will be open for use. Please reach out with any specific accommodation needs you have, we are glad you are interested in this event and will see to it that you are welcomed and accommodated.
