Description

Experimental Techniques in Transparent and Opaque Watercolor

Learn a variety of experimental techniques using transparent and opaque watercolor, including pen and ink techniques, mono-printing, and using sand and dyes, saran wrap, gauze and collage. Participants can work in both types of watercolor to develop a personal style using images or abstractions. This class is designed for all levels of experience.

Please see the online notes below for a materials list to purchase prior to class (approx. $60). The instructor will provide some materials.

Instructor Sally Elliott was a professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Denver in drawing and painting. She has been exhibiting locally and nationally for over 40 years and has earned numerous awards and honors.

Notes
List of materials for Experimental Techniques in Watercolor and Gouache

Some materials will be provided by the instructor. The materials each participant will need to provide themselves include:

One 9X12 90 lb mixed media pad of paper
One 9X12 140 lb watercolor pad of paper
Three nylon watercolor brushes (One #10 or 12 round , one ½ inch flat and one small liner)
Set of watercolors. The best buy are Yarka brand. Bring tube watercolors if you have some.
Artist Masking tape
Small container of Matte Gel Medium
Spray bottle
Scissors
Water container (a plastic yogurt container Is good)
Gouache or tempera (to be discussed later)

Guiry’s is the best place to buy what you need although McGuckins has art supplies as well. You can sometimes find things at Art Parts and Michael’s. Items can also be ordered online from a site such as Amazon.
